Mike and Maria Kotsatos of Warren celebrating their 50th anniversary today.
Mr. Kotsatos and the former Maria Grammatas met at Easter services at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Warren in 1966, and were married at the church June 18, 1967.
Starting married life on Sheridan Avenue in Warren, the couple had three boys, Bill (Cecilia Lang) Kotsatos of Brooklyn, N.Y., Steven Kotsatos of Austin, Texas, and Moskos (Carole Cosendey) Kotsatos of Warren. For the next 20 years, they lived in Howland before moving to Akron, then back to Warren in 2015.
Mike was employed as a slitter-helper by Van Huffel Steel and Tube Corp. until the plant shut down in 1982. After the shutdown, Mike worked as an office cleaner, dishwasher and as an employee at AVI FoodSystems in Warren.
Maria, who was born in Warren but raised in Brooklyn, had worked for Standard and Poor’s in New York. After marriage she became a homemaker, as well as working as a waitress, craft maker and at AVI Food Systems. In Akron, she was employed for 18 years by the Summit County Board of Elections.
Mike and Maria enjoy spending time with one another, taking walks, setting up at flea markets or at home, as well as time with friends and family, their two grandchildren, dancing, traveling and volunteering at the annual St. Demetrios Greek Festival.
